Orthotics vs Inserts, do you need either and which one is right for you?
Orthotics are prescribed by a doctor, custom made and made by a specialist. To make, a unique mold is made of the person’s foot. That way, they can be made to support and provide relief to specific problem areas of a person’s foot. Orthotics usually have a longer lifespan than inserts. They tend to be more rigid and durable than inserts.
Inserts are pre-made products and are available over-the-counter. Inserts are also designed to provide support and pressure relief but they are not custom to a person’s foot. Inserts are usually less durable, have a shorter lifespan and are less expensive than orthotics.
Which is right for you - Orthotics or Inserts?
This depends on the person’s needs. If you have severe flat feet and foot problems you may need orthotics to provide better support and relief. If your flat feet and feet issues are more mild, inserts may be enough. Consult a doctor or foot specialist to determine which option is right for you.
