Washing kids shoes is really easy. It only takes a few steps if they are just dirty. If they also stink of smelly feet, you need to add a few more steps. Here is the best way to wash tennis shoes.
Remove any loose dirt or debris by hitting shoes together outside or over a trashcan.
If there’s a lot of dirt that doesn’t come off, use an old toothbrush or a soft bristled brush to get off additional dirt. This works especially good on the soles and crevices.
If the shoes are also stinky, fill each shoe with baking soda. Cover the entire insole of the shoe with about ½” – 1” of baking soda. (It’s very inexpensive so you can be generous.) Let the baking soda sit in the shoe for at least 24 hours or until you’re ready to move to the next step. It can sit in there for a few days.
After the 24 hours, or when ready to move on, dump the baking soda into the trash.
If you can, remove the insoles from the shoes and place them in a mesh bag. Even if the insole is glued to the shoe I usually can pull them out with a little pressure. If you can’t remove them, you can wash the shoes with the insoles attached.
If the laces are dirty, remove them from the shoes and place them in a mesh bag.
Also place the shoes in a mesh bag and wash the shoes, laces and insoles on a normal wash cycle in the washing machine.
Remove the shoes, laces and insoles from the washing machine immediately after they are done.
To dry, place all three in a warm, well-ventilated area. You can also place them outside to dry.
Make sure the insoles and laces are completely dry and put them back in the shoes. Now you know the best way to wash tennis shoes you can enjoy clean, stink free shoes!
